Another "Working" Weekend

This weekend was the California Dental Association's convention in Anaheim. I was asked by the school to present my research again. So I shlepped my giant poster back on down to So. Cal for another table clinic, only this time it was a competition. Several other students from the second year class also participated. But I got to take home a lovely new accessory (below).
2nd place, Baby! (...and I was told I was only points away from a 1st place win). When Hayden saw the ribbon, he was very enthusiastic. He held onto it in the backseat of the car on the way home from picking me up from the airport. He asked me what it was for. I told him I had been in a science fair, except this one was for a bunch of dental students from all over California, and my science project was all about teeth. He thought that was pretty cool.

Don't expect the dentist to get a lot done. The first appointments are often just designed to get the kids used to being there and checking for early intervention needs. If Linc cries, don't dismay... at least his mouth is open. Ask lots of questions. This appointment is as much for you as it is for Linc. And MOST IMPORTANTLY: If you have any qualms or worries about the dentist yourself, don't even hint at it with Linc! Let him have a good experience without worrying about you. That is one of the biggest determinants as to whether a person is fearful of the dentist as an adult or not.

FYI for anyone reading this with little ones: It is recommended that children be seen by a dentist by the age of one. A lot of general dentists don't make the effort to do such exams because they don't want to deal with it, but if they tell you otherwise, take the kids to a dentist with more patience. A lot can be discovered by those early examinations.

Have fun, Linc!!!

Whoever got first place must have cheated or something. No fair that you went to Disneyland. I haven't been in over 5 years.. did you get to ride the new and improved Space Mountain? I bet the boys were pretty jealous! PS I'm pretty positive we aren't going to the black tie.. are you? PPS That was my deleted comment above because I was logged in under another blog.. so don't be scared

Congratulations on the great big first place, red ribbon saying you are incredible and you worked so hard on that project! Love the fact of comparing it to the science fair.

Yes, we can recite far too many lines from The Christmas Story too.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am feeling all warm and fuzzy... may I add you to my blog roll?

Have I told you I am surrounded by dentists in our family? SIX! However, we don't go to them, too far away. I did ask my cousin once... so when do you have a child come in for the fist visit? He simply said... when child gets teeth!

A Duh! moment for me indeed. My kids do well at the Dentist, maybe because I stay away from the chair. Best for all involved.
