California RULES! We have gorgeous weather almost 24/7, the sandy beaches adorn the West side, the Sierra Mountains line the East side, free health care for poor people, and FREE roller coaster rides every few years!!! ... Well, not roller coaster rides, exactly, but it feels like it when a good earthquake hits.
So yesterday we got one of those free rides. Everyone is okay, thanks for asking. I was in the dental clinic with my cohort when the 5.4 rumbler hit. One of the other residents was about to give an injection to a patient when her hand started shaking uncontrollably for some reason. Turns out, everything was shaking. And true to native Californian form, I stood there with a couple of my classmates and watched as the lights swayed back and forth, ready to duck if the ceiling tiles started falling out, but all the while nonchalantly assessing the severity of that particular quake. You see, if it's not above a 6.0, and the epicenter isn't right on top of you, a true Californian does not "duck and cover." We just enjoy the ride! WEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
*This public service announcement should in no way be confused for actual recommendations regarding earthquake safety. Earthquakes are really terrible things. People die, sometimes. Freeways crumble. You should be afraid... Very afraid.

That was quite a roller yesterday, wasn't it.
I was in the car stopped at an intersection, and thought the guy behind me rear ended me.
Except it went on, and on, and...
ON.
Do you realize that we both felt the SF quake in '89, and the LA quake in '94?
They seem to follow us around.
LOL! That video had me on the floor!
Whew-boy! You got that right! But I didn't even get up out of my chair. Another few seconds and I might have. It felt big.
the video is hilarious!
Earthquakes probably scare me more than any other natural disaster. Maybe because I experienced them so often as a child. I was always afraid one wouldn't stop.
I almost wet my pants at the video! Glad that all is well.
I was on the phone with a patient when it hit (she was in Clairemont, about 20 minutes north) and she felt it. I felt a slight vibration on my keyboard, but that happens when the AC kicks on too, so I couldn't tell. The other person in her office hadn't felt it, so the patient blamed it on the bottle of vodka she had for lunch!
I feel so left out.
CT has ... ummm, Lymes disease.
Does that count for exciting earth moving drama?
