I was fortunate enough to attend the Nutcracker, performed by the San Francisco ballet, when I was in the second grade. I have never forgotten sitting high up in the balcony, peering down at the dancers below with my dad's binoculars and studying the glittering, beaded costumes. I was taking ballet at the time, and I was studying how remarkably pointy all the ladies' toes were... Would I ever be able to stand on my tippy toes like that? It was a magical experience.
Sadly, I have never had the chance to go back to see the Nutcracker since. So when my mom got our family tickets to see a production by a local dance academy, we jumped at the chance.
And by jumped, I mean sat in traffic for three hours to travel 39.39 miles. That's right folks: on the freeways of Los Angeles, we traveled an average of 13.33 miles per hour. I'm sure I don't have to elaborate on the mood in the car. Let's just say, if I had any delusions of reliving my magical Nutcracker experience from childhood, I got totally screwed by downtown traffic... Or more aptly put: I got scrooged.
Bah! Humbug!!!!

I don't know what car you were in last night.
I remember having a jolly ol' time in the car, Shanabug.
I didn't drop an f-bomb once.
But, yes...
LA SUUUUUUUUUUUCKS!!!
There. I feel better now.
i hear ya on the traffic aggravation but I have to tell ya, your account was funny! You tell a good story.
So does this mean you missed it?!
We didn't miss it, but were ushered in during the middle of the first act. It was so horribly embarrassing, particularly since we were in the third row!
So sorry, Shana! Was it good after you got there? Say what you will about nasty old LA, they do put on an excellent selection of productions, when you can get there. Did the boys enjoy it? I'd love to see it agian.
sad! merry christmas anyway.
Yikes... I thought the Merritt our here in Fairfield County was bad trying to get back and forth just to JFK 29 times this holiday season.
