Here is one more blog about my trip down South last weekend, and then I'll leave you alone for a while.
My little nephew, Caleb, can turn my heart to mush in an instant. He leaves messages on my voice mail that I have difficulty understanding, save the enthusiastic, "Hi, Auntie Shana!" that begins our every conversation. But I just can't seem to find it in my heart to erase them.
For whatever reason, I taught him the term, "Yabba Dabba Doo!" last Christmas. This is now how he greets me whenever it has been a while since I have seen him. The second I got in the car when Amy picked me up at the airport, Caleb said, "Hi, Auntie Shana! Yabba Dabba Doo!" and flashed his amazing grin.
I love to color for him (which is what this picture shows), because he loves my giraffes even though they look like llamas (llamaraffes are the coolest.) He loves to sing, but is very much an opinionated two year old... so if he isn't feeling it, he will respond, "No thanks." While driving in the car, Amy gives him an iPod shuffle that they won from the MDA fundraiser. It is filled with his favorite kid songs, which allows him to enjoy them ad lib without torturing the other passengers too much. In between each song, he consistently says, "More song" while he waits for the next tune to begin. It is always enjoyable to hear him sing "I been working on the Rainbow, all the ling-dong day."
He is getting so strong and works so hard to be as mobile as he can. I love watching him in his walker. The kid is fast (like his hero, Lightning McQueen) and is taking advantage of the freedom the walker affords him. He likes to challenge himself to stand for as long as his little body will let him. Caleb has more tenacity than a champion prizefighter.

Hi Shana, it's your best friend Rachel. :) Thanks for your comment on my blog. I first have to say that your nephew is adorable! He sounds so dang sweet and I love the Yabba Dabba Doo.
I just read through a couple of your posts and totally laughed out loud. Especially the creepy fetus post. That was dang funny. I know exactly what you mean about everybody pretending to have perfect lives and I've had some internal controversy with this very issue. Because I do think it's somewhat natural to highlight the good things that are happening to you, and the good things about your family. I mean, I've had my fair share of why my husband's so wonderful and my wonderful baby moment stuff myself. I mean your not going to get on there and tell about the fight you and your husband just got in the night before. But at the same time, I think it's okay to talk about some of the real things sometimes even if it shows that you aren't perfect. I guess I just blog whatever I feel. Somedays life is great, but sometimes there are things that just bug me or make me laugh that I want to post.
I do laugh too at some of the over the top blogs with common lines like, "Isn't my child the cutest child you've ever seen?" Because actually, no, MY child is the cutest child I've ever seen. Or another of my favorite lines from this super ridiculous girl is, "Let's see, nothing exciting has been going on here. Hmmm...let me think. Oh, Josh just bought me a brand new SUV. So that was nice." Because isn't that real? My husband goes out and buys a $40,000 vehicle then brings it home to surprise me all the time. :)
So yeah, I don't know if I clarified my point all that well, but I do totally think you're right in that there are so many people who portray their lives to be unrealisticly perfect. I really do think it's our comparitive mormon culture that makes us feel like we can't let our guard down. And I think that's really sad.
It was nice to "meet" you.
Caleb is adorable Shana. He touches my heart just looking at the pictures and reading your post.
That is such a sweet post. I love little Caleb too. Oh, and by the way, I am stealing the picture of the mom bathing the kid next to this post, if that's OK.
That's cool with me, Ang. I found a ton of those little things and plan on putting up more in the future. They crack me up!
Shana, you can take on 19 five-year olds in a fight? I can only take on 14. It's confirmed. You're meaner than me by 5 five-year olds.
And if I can't take em down on the playground, I can strap em in the dental chair and give em a little gas... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
You are one serious blogger! I love all the new posts! I am so glad that you got yourself a visitor map too! I actually get really excited to see where are blog is being looked at! So fun!
Shana, you're really creeping me out now.
Let's just say I hope you delete that last comment you made before you start your pedo practice. It's a little incriminating, perhaps?
... I'm just saying...
like the 5 yr old fight test. says i could take 10, but with linc being 5, i'm thinking i can bearly do one. lol
Little Caleb is adorable! Thanks for sharing him with us.
I've been "commenting" like crazy, but mostly on "old" blogs, so no one will see them unless they check the old ones! but I had something to say on those and I can say it now, so I did. so, all of you, check the old comments for "new" ones from Ol' Mom, because I can take on 6 five year olds! (maybe)
I've been leaving comments on old postings too since I got started later than you all, so check your old stuff, guys!
I'm glad to see how well Caleb is progressing. Yabba Dabba Doo!
